FFT-based cross-covariance processing of optical signals for speed and length measurement

چکیده
The optical sensor is composed of two eyesafe parallel laser beams operating at two different wavelengths (see Figure 1). When a vehicle passes in front of the sensor, the laser light is diffused on the surface of the vehicle. The diffused light is then focused on two photodetectors, one for each laser. We thus obtain two signals, x(t) and yet), which represent the fluctuations in time of the intensity of the light diffused by the vehicle. Since the laser beams are separated by a distance D, one of the signals is a delayed version of the other.

The Measurement System
The National Optics Institute has recently developed an optical velocimeter composed of two parallel laser beams for measuring perpendicularly the speed and the length of vehicles. The system must be capable of measuring speeds varying from 0 to 150 km/h in both directions with an accuracy of 1%. This paper focuses on the algorithms and signal processing aspects of the system. The speed is meas...
متن کاملApplication of Mixed-radix FFT Algorithms in Multi-band GNSS Signal Acquisition Engines
Due to their fast operation, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)-based coarse signal synchronization methods are an attractive option for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver baseband signal processing. However, there are several reasons why the utility of FFT-based methods is dependent on understanding the trade-off between synchronization speed and the required processing power. Firstl...
متن کاملASIC Design of Butterfly Unit Based on Non-Redundant and Redundant Algorithm
Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) processors employed with pipeline architecture consist of series of Processing Elements (PE) or Butterfly Units (BU). BU or PE of FFT performs multiplication and addition on complex numbers. This paper proposes a single BU to compute radix-2, 8 point FFT in the time domain as well as frequency domain by replacing a series of PEs. This BU comprises of fused floating ...

Measuring means extracting information from acquired signals. Either in the frequency or in the time, mathematical processing tools are applied to get information from measurement signals. It is usual, when processing measurement signals in the frequency domain, the application of Fourier analysis, mainly through Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithms. Nevertheless, there are other digital sig...
متن کاملOptical computing for optical coherence tomography
We propose an all-optical Fourier transformation system for real-time massive data processing in high speed optical coherence tomography (OCT). In the so-called optical computing OCT, fast Fourier transformation (FFT) of A-scan signal is optically processed in real time before being detected by photoelectric detector. Therefore, the processing time for interpolation and FFT in traditional Fouri...
